We Tried Ocean-Inspired Clean Haircare from Saltie By 30A

Saltie Seaweed Hydrating Shampoo ($19.99) is formulated with Saltie’s signature marine botanical complex, which contains B-complex vitamins, amino acids, plant proteins, and minerals.

Inspired by a two-lane road that meanders along Florida’s Gulf Coast, 30A is a lifestyle brand that offers apparel like t-shirts, sweatshirts, and hats with the company’s logo.

Now the company has introduced Saltie, a line of five core haircare products infused with a marine botanical complex comprised of a sustainable mix of seaweed, kelp, algae, and organic coconut oil. Rich in 65+ vitamins and minerals, Saltie products are free of sulfates, paraben, gluten, phthalates, and artificial color. What’s more, the packaging is made of 100% post-consumer plastic.

Four types of seaweed—dulse seaweed, sea lichen algae, brown seaweed, and wakame seaweed—plus sugar kelp work in tandem to nourish scalp and hair, reduce free radical damage, increase elasticity, hydrate, reduce scalp sebum, provide anti-inflammatory benefits, and provide natural sun protection. Meanwhile, organic coconut oil, high in essential fatty acids, moisturizes, reduces frizz and adds shine.

Saltie Sea Kelp Daily Conditioner ($19.99) repairs damaged hair, detangles, prevents frizz, and adds shine. The lightweight conditioner has the same marine botanical complex as all of the other products in the line as well as the brand’s calming sea mist fragrance.

Recently I took three of the products for a test drive and was pleasantly surprised by the punch they packed.

  • Saltie Seaweed Hydrating Shampoo offers deep hydration in a lightweight formula that gently cleanses without stripping natural oils. Microbubble technology (an innovative field that involves the creation and application of tiny gas-filled bubbles) and peppermint leaf oil provide a tingling sensation during lathering, which enhanced the cleansing experience for me. I also liked the fact that it’s safe for my color-treated hair.

  • Saltie Sea Kelp Daily Conditioner is rich in plant proteins, B-complex vitamins, amino acids, and minerals plus organic coconut oil that provide moisture and shine, while also detangling and preventing frizz without weighing hair down.

  • Saltie Sea Salt Texturizing Spray is like a beach day in a bottle. Loaded with amino acids, antioxidants, vitamins and minerals, it’s unlike lots of other sea salt sprays I’ve tried that left my hair feeling stiff. Surprisingly lightweight, it delivered a beach-wave finish, adding just the right amount of texture and volume to my super-fine hair.

Saltie Sea Salt Texturizing Spray ($19.99) adds sexy ocean texture without the crunch.
