Beauty Boss: Matter of Monday Founder Jiajia Sollers Created a Skincare Line Focused On Protecting and Repairing Skin from Stress, Fatigue, and Blue Light Exposure
Jiajia Sollers.
Our latest Beauty Boss is Jiajia Sollers, Founder of Matter of Monday—an innovative skincare line that focuses on stress, fatigue, and blue light protection and repair. As a busy CFO for a hedge fund, Sollers noticed that all of the stress, fatigue, and prolonged screen time had taken a toll on her skin. This led her to begin experimenting and researching to find a smarter and more sustainable way to protect her skin even before the damage started.
Everything You Need to Know About Blue Light and How Staring at a Screen Affects Our Eyes
Matter of Monday’s products are gently formulated for all skin types including sensitive and feature high-quality, clinically-proven ingredients that combine the best of clean chemistry and botanicals to protect and restore. We chatted with Sollers who shared the inspiration behind the brand, secrets for success, best advice, and much more.
When was Matter of Monday founded and what inspired it?
I’ve always been passionate about skin care and the science behind it. I noticed that my skin always looked the worst during the busy season when I was working in the hedge fund industry, which confirmed that the damage of stress and long screen hours is real and profound.
I started educating myself and experimenting researching what specific ingredients would work best to combat stress and blue light. Not seeing any existing retail products like that in the market, I felt I owed it to myself and others to create a brand and bring the solution to all busy working professionals.
Matter of Monday was founded at the end of September 2024. I was deep in my research and understanding the science and restorative power of specific ingredients. Synthetic ingredients are precisely engineered with well-defined properties to provide targeted solutions, such as peptides for collagen and glycerin for hydration.
Botanical ingredients on the other hand contain naturally occurring compounds including fatty acids, vitamins, and antioxidants with multiple benefits but with gentler action. The combination of high-quality clean chemistry and botanical leverages the synergy among these two and delivers the most effective results.
Do you have a hero product? Favorite product?
The hero product is Anti-Blue Light Brightening Serum. It’s specially formulated to protect the skin from blue light damage while triggering skin’s self-defense. It’s a missing piece in our daily skincare that should be integrated to fully protect the skin in this digital age.
I’m also excited about our Anti-Stress Renewal Moisturizer as it offers instant and deep hydration for dryness and calms the skin to prevent stress induced inflammation and premature aging.
Our Anti-Fatigue Restorative Eye Cream protects your delicate eye area, the first area to show sign of aging, especially when you are experiencing fatigue. Packed with multiple peptides, silk protein, rice protein and caffeine, this powerful eye cream soothes the eye area with nutrients, boosts collagen and prevents fatigue induced signs.
Who inspires you?
Vicky Tsai from Tatcha and Nancy Twine from Briogeo, as they both pivoted from the finance world like myself and build great success in the beauty industry.
Secret to success?
As a minority woman working myself up to become a CFO in the highly competitive world of finance, I would say the secret to success is having a clear goal and road map. Break that big goal down to small bite size pieces and create the milestones. Keep your eyes on the goals and ignore distractions.
Beauty secrets?
My top beauty is fully “proactively” protecting my skin first and foremost. I religiously apply sunscreen everyday even in cloudy days. These days, with Anti-Blue Light Brighten Serum created, I put it on every morning before I get on my cell phone and computer.
Another fun secret is that while I am in the kitchen, I’d like to use some cooking ingredients on my face. For example, I’ll put some freshly diced garlic on my face or a piece of lemon, or some tomato peels. They are rich in antioxidants and vitamins. By the time I finish cooking, my skin looks radiant.
Wellness tips?
I make sure to have enough vitamins every day from healthy foods and supplements. I also make sure to exercise and have a good night’s sleep no matter how busy I get.
Best advice?
Self-care is essential for our body and mind. It’s not only a habit, but also a commitment to maintaining a healthy diet, managing stress and practicing proactive skincare.
How do you like to relax?
Taking a walk in nature or by the beach.
